retro review - soldier girl amazon
Solider Girl Amazon was developed by Nitchibutsu in 1986 and released on Hamster's arcade archives series for the ps4. The object of the game is to progress to the top while avoiding enemies and bullets. At the end of the level there is a boss to defeat. If you're quick enough you can grab the prisoner for more points, at least in the English Version. In the Japanese version you can only catch them off their bike, which is really hard. The only weapons you have are a sword beam and bombs that freeze enemies. You can also ride different vehicles with upgraded firepower.
You only shoot in the direction you're facing, which is less than ideal but it works I guess. You can get power ups that increase the spread of your weapon, and gives you that splattering feeling. I'm glad the arcade archives emulation provides a setting for turbo fire. And you'll need it because this game is considerably difficult.
Playing challenging games is fun, but this game was designed so virtually nobody could get very far on a single credit. The character's hitbox is big, the enemies and bullets are much faster, and it's tough aiming your bullet. Not to mention its hard to distinguish what you can walk through, I mean at look at this. At least the music is good. There's a two player mode, but it's alternating, so you're not playing at the same time, which really could have saved this game. By the way how do you like this instruction card? Overall, Soldier Girl Amazon is a bitch, waiting to pray on those lost in retro jungle. If there's anything you like about this game or you know how to beat the boss at the end of level 5, leave a message in the comment section on the youtube page. C+
