retro review - ms pac man

Ms Pac-Man was developed by General Computer Corporation as an unofficial enhancement kit to the original Pac-Man. It was then sold to Bally/Midway and published by Namco in 1982. It's been re-released on the PS4, xbox1, and PC through Namco's Arcade Game Series. The gameplay is similar to that of the original, with a few minor changes. This time, there are four different mazes that change every couple rounds. The fruit bounces through the level instead of appearing in the middle, and the ghosts have improved AI, and I think Blinky is faster. The game is more difficult than the original, because of the more random nature of the ghosts, and there are plenty of patterns and techniques to become familiar with.

The controls in Ms Pac-Man are a little different as well, and this threw me off guard after playing 3 hours of Pac-Man. In Ms Pac-Man, you can turn the corner faster than the ghosts, so don't spend too much time in a straight line if you're being chased. Some of the sound effects and pickups have undergone changes as well. By the way, why is there a pretzel when all the rest are fruits?

The mazes also change color every couple rounds, which is the palette cleanse that the original Pac-Man needed. The overflow glitch comes way sooner this game, and I recommend you try getting to level 142 if you want to get the most mileage out of this game. My only issue is that I would have liked all four mazes to have kept repeating, instead of only the final two. Overall, Ms. Pac-Man is true classic that can be revisited and relished by practically anyone, especially those who are new to retrogaming. A-
