Winter Games NES megamix
I was watching NBC's shitty coverage of the 2018 Olympics and it was so horrendous that I decided to pop in Winter Games and make an NES MEGAMIX. The music on this game is worth preserving in true stereo, and I take pride in what I do, unlike NBC who likes to piss all over the Olympics and make it as boring and difficult to watch as possible with their bogus scheduling, pretaped live events, and a nonstop stream of ads trying to sell me shit I would never buy because I don't have money which is why I'm watching people tumble down mountains in the first place.
One event you won't find on TV is Hot Dog Aerials. That's because there's no such thing. They really should have focused on programming a biathlon event and making the bobseld more interesting. My personal favorite is speed skating. The bassline is sample-worthy and once you realize it's about rhythm there is actually a pubic hair of fun to be found.
What really chaps my ass about Winter Games is the bad reputation it lends to California Games and World Games. They all seem to get lumped together in the shit bin, whereas Winter Games is really only the true offender. Believe it or not, there are some really awesome winter sports compilations done right, like the ones by 49Games. I hope someone can resurrect this genre and execute it properly again.
Winter Games is one of the saddest entries to the NES library. It was released in 1987 which makes it an earlier 3rd-party NES titles, so they could be forgiven. It'd been cool if there were more events like the Commodore 64 and Atari 2600 versions had several years prior. Then again it'd be cool if NBC learned how to broadcast the Olympics then I wouldn't have had to subject myself to the torture of learning how to figure skate with a D-pad.
