Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers NES megamix
I never understood the name behind Chip 'N Dale Rescue Rangers. Why is this children's cartoon named after an erotic male striptease group? As it turns out the characters were coined during the 40s and named after Thomas Chippendale's 18th century furniture for some fucksake reason. The dancing sex workers began performing much later in the 1970s, and were named after the club they stripped at which was also named after some stupid furniture.
It's wasn't until 1989 that Disney wanted to resurrect Chip and Dale into an animated series and NES game. Which is probably why they added Rescue Rangers to the title. It's almost as if they hired some rebranding expert so they could take the name in a different direction.
The gameplay itself is rock solid, and is arguably the best 2-player platformer on the NES. It's one of the few 2-player simultaneous platforming games (along with it's sequel) on the classic Nintendo, depending on how you categorize some beat 'em-ups. I don't know why, but I always wanted Dale to die during the end of each episode. Maybe that's why I liked playing co-op by myself so I could just carry him around and throw him off ledges.
The best part about Rescue Rangers is that it's available for sale on the Disney Afternoon Collection. A retro remaster done right-- complete with online leaderboards, boss rush, and a rewind system. Score!
