Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2
I was on the fence about buying THPS 1+2 because I didn't know if there would be any new features and challenges. Reviews were long winded and uninformatitive as usual, so I am here to tell you that YES there are enough new features in this remaster to warrant another purchase. There's online multiplayer, speed runs and score attack (with leaderboards) and hundreds of extra offline challenges that unlock customizations, mods, clothing, and other stuff. The trick videos are especially entertaining to watch and unlock, as each skater's stat skills are hidden in different places throughout the games 19 courses. You don't need to redo all of the original missions again, but it is fun finding the hidden stats and going through each skater's unique challenges. The devs put a lot of thought into incentivizing replay. But which system to should you buy it on?
THPS 1+2 will probably be the the last game I purchase for PS4. I didn't go for the PC version because I'm worried about dealing with the Epic game store. I read that the controls might not be supported and people having to optimize this and that for performance and blah blah blah. I don't have time for that shit, your experience may vary. I took the low risk PS4 phat version so I'm playing on inferior equipment, but it's mostly fine, some framedrops aside-- and the online actually works!
They got most of the old tunes back and added a dozen or so new Artists and the soundtrack is great. The whole experience tickles my nostalgia chords in a way that's both satisfying and depressing. I hear uppity punk rock and hip hop tunes driven by dissolution and self-awareness. Sonically optimistic, lyrically realistic, and ultimately uncertain. Everything has gone to shit, and the only thing Western civilization has left is perserving the past to let future generations experience what was good.
