F-Zero GX
F-Zero GX is the masterclass of racing titles because of its mindblowing courses, vast array of pilots with their own unique machinery, and sensational speed that still holds up against the fastest racing games over 17 years into the future.
It's pretty rare for racing titles to get 30 pilots cruising side-by-side at speeds well over 1000 kph, and yet F-Zero GX managed to do this on the Gamecube back in 2003 with incredible fluidity. Each aircraft felt unique, and if you were able to finish 1st place throughout an overall cup on the highest difficulty, you would unlock their bonus video and more importantly, their theme song. Having 41 total pilots to master was a huge feat, but extremely rewarding. I only wish we could have listened to the unlocked music while racing, but I'm sure they will correct this minor issue in the remaster.
I have reason to believe Nintendo wants to re-release F-Zero GX on the Switch. All the inspirations popping up among indie developers with titles like Redout, Fast RMX, GRIP, and more are really driving the message that there's a huge market for this type of racing. Secondly, remember when Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz came out on Switch? This is a nice trial balloon to see how a similar game engine would run on fresh hardware. Last but not least, Nintendo loves their dedicated fans, and judging by how well Captain Falcon's been performing over at Smash Ultimate, I wouldn't be surprised if we see an F-Zero Ultimate emerging in the near future.
