Timesplitters Future Perfect
I don't play too many first person shooters anymore. That's because Timesplitters Future Perfect came out in 2005 and no developer has been able to raise the bar since. The cut-to-the-chase campaign that can be played with a friend, the variety of locations and guns, the brilliant challenges and league matches, the variety of multiplayer modes, the quirky characters, the well-designed maps, and a killer soundtrack, all set Timesplitters above the rest. And we haven't see a proper clone or remake since.
Today's mainstream FPS's don't hold a candle to what was the best possible way to experience this genre on a console. Back then, gameplay was paramount and the evolution of Goldeneye to Perfect Dark to the Timesplitters series allowed for creative freedoms that focused on making the tightest experience as possible without all the unneccessary worries about licensing or appeasement. But then something happened:The Timesplitter IP itself went into limbo. But now that THQ has gotten hold of it, there is a strong chance that this series successfully resurfaces.
TFP also boasted a creative map-maker that still holds up today! If you haven't played Timesplitters Future Perfect, your credibility will come into question whenever you start recommending FPS's to people. I hope THQ Nordic or whoever decides to publish the remaster gets it right so I don't have to go back in time and shoot someone.
