Sniper Elite 4
I first played Sniper Elite 4 a couple years back at this dood's place. No we didn't play co-op. He had one controller and wanted to take turns. That's stupid. Sniper Elite is not a hot-seat game. It's a solitary experience where you turn off the lights and become absorbed in stealth combat all night until you have to go to work the next day.
I hesitate to use the term stealth combat because whenever I hear that I think "linear progression and cookie-cutter objectives," but Sniper Elite 4 showed me how open-ended and dynamic a hide-and-go-shooter can be. The weapon upgrade system are a nice incentive to use your guns in a variety of ways, whether it be soundmasking or side-arming where you have to hold in the trigger halfway to fire from your shoulder. It's all very technical but never overwhelming, and the interwoven maps are impeccably designed.
I wound up lending out 3 games to the guy: Metal Gear Solid V, Bloodborne, and something else. He ended up skipping town and I never got my games back or heard from him again. Makes me want to Sniper Elite IRL.
