mega man NES megamix

The first Mega Man game can be enjoyed on Mega Man Legacy Collection, which featured remixed levels where you warp from one point to another in timed challenges. They're nice, but why couldn't we just speedrun the stages like normal? On initial release, the game didn't include a rewind button like Disney Afternoon Collection did. This feature is great for kids or helping noobs learn a level quicker (people are busier nowadays). And actually now that I think about it-- the rewind feature is also good for speedrunners because it prevents them from having to restart from the beginning over and over again. I'm glad they added this to Nintendo Switch version.

I've read some complaints about lag. The frame or two delay didn't affect me until I tried performing the glitch-zip in Mega Man 1. This is an advanced trick that speedrunners use to warp through walls. You can perform this technique to skip sections and pick up the Magnet Beam before defeating Guts Man. I found it substantially more difficult to perform on Legacy Collection. I also wished someone took the time to actually remaster the games so they don't fall into slo-mo, and perhaps even add the ability to change weapons using the triggers. Someone told me that the Japanese exclusive Rockman Complete Works for Playstation allows you to do so. It would have been cool to re-experience these games without dicking through menus like we're still in the Soviet Union era.

This probably sounds more like a review for Mega Man Legacy Collection than it does an article about Mega Man 1. The truth is that I don't care, I am still waiting for a patch. Or another definitive edition of classic Mega Man. Maybe it will come to NES Switch Online and we can compare these emulations side by side and see who loses less.

You also can't properly listen to the soundtrack on Mega Man Legacy Collection because the music library only plays one song at a time. Who enjoys selecting a new song every 90 seconds? No one. That's okay because GameTestPlay's gotcha covered....
