Ion Fury

Ion Fury shows off the enormous capability of the Build Engine and is able to perfectly capture what was so good about retro first person shooters. The interconnected mazelike maps, the weapons and enemy balancing, and killer soundtrack by Jarkko Rotsten are all standout achievements.

The levels are like Duke Nukem 3D with tons of branching paths, secrets stashes, and neat stuff to look at. These labyrynths put to shame the linear feeling that modern FPSs can induce, and aren't overly confusing thanks to carefully placed switches, security monitors, and keycards. It can seem like there is a limited amount of enemy variety, but the guns and ammo resources are so well placed that it makes the whole experience feel like a survival game with a heavy dose of both action and exploration.

BTW, I couldn't figure out how to get the damn controllers working! I had to go all the way to page 2 of google to figure out the issue. The issue is that Ion Fury naturally supports gamepads so make sure you turn OFF controller support in STEAM's settings. I preferred playing with a Nintendo Pro Controller for this one.
